Ball Corporation Recognized for Global Support on World Red Cross/Red Crescent Day

The Ball Foundation recognized for its Global Support of the Red Cross on World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day

Ongoing Support Enables the Red Cross to Prepare for and Respond to Disasters

Broomfield, CO, Tuesday, May 8, 2018 —  The American Red Cross and The Ball Foundation encourage you to join us in celebrating World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day by taking steps to prepare for disasters, ahead of summer disaster season.

The Ball Foundation has pledged $550,000 to support the American Red Cross Disaster Responder Program, and the Disaster Relief Emergency Fund of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.  Last year, Ball also provided aluminum cans used for canned clean drinking water donated to the Red Cross and other organizations to distribute following disasters in North America and Mexico.

Each year in the U.S., the Red Cross responds to nearly 64,000 disasters across the country, including home fires, hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes and wildfires. Disaster Responder members pledge donations to American Red Cross disaster relief year-round, in advance of major disasters, to ensure the Red Cross can respond immediately with comfort and care whenever and wherever disasters occur, help families during the recovery process, and ensure communities become better prepared for the next disaster.

The Disaster Relief Emergency Fund enables the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to provide immediate financial support to National Red Cross and Red Crescent societies, enabling them to carry out their unique role as responders after a disaster.

“We’re so thankful for The Ball Foundation’s commitment to the Red Cross through its $550,000 annual contribution to support the American Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies,” said Jono Anzalone, vice president, International Services at the American Red Cross. “Their generous gift supports the Red Cross mission as we work together to help people impacted by disasters across the country and around the world.”

“As we celebrate World Red Cross and Red Crescent day we encourage everyone to join us in taking steps to prepare yourself and your families for emergencies and disasters,” said Chris Chavez, executive director of The Ball Foundation.

It’s important to prepare for a disaster before it occurs.
