Mother’s Day – Celebrating Our Volunteers

Mother’s Day is a special day for all of us. A chance to share some love with our moms and to celebrate the enormous contribution they have made in our lives. At the American Red Cross many of our volunteers are moms and year -after-year we find our Red Cross moms deployed to disasters around the country.

Our Red Cross moms do it all and we owe them a huge thank you for all that they do. So, we thought we would reach back in our archives to bring out stories of Red Cross moms and the contributions they make.

There are countless stories about mothers being deployed on Mother’s Day. It is one of the hardships about volunteering with the Red Cross as a disaster responder. “We respond when people need help, no matter what day of the year”, said Kate Walters, a Red Cross volunteer and mom of 4. “My kids miss me, but in the end, they learn to be more independent and I know that they look up to me as a role model. They want to deploy now too!”
