Reunification Center and Shelter is open at Cheyenne Mountain High School in Colorado Springs

Update: Wednesday, May 29, as of 2:00 PM – The shelter at Cheyenne Mountain High School remains open as the fire department continues to evaluate the Regency Tower Apartment building to determine when and if residents will be able to return to their apartments.

Update: Tuesday, May 28, as of 12:00 PM – The evacuation of the Regency Tower Apartments has NOT been lifted and the shelter remains open. Residents may seek shelter at Cheyenne Mountain High School if they have been displaced and may be running low on resources on this 5th night of evacuation.

Some re-entry decisions are expected to be made today but the shelter remains open as needed.

The 8th St Walmart generously donates 10 pillows and pillowcases for the comfort of shelter clients. One of their own employees is currently evacuated.

We helped 123 people Friday night and 3 people have stayed in our shelter each subsequent night.

Update: Sunday, May 26, 7:00 PM – The shelter opened in response to the fire and subsequent evacuation of the Regency Tower Apartments in Colorado Springs remains open tonight. If you or a loved one was displaced by the evacuation and in need of a place to stay, please check in at Cheyenne Mountain High School, Main Gym, East.

Update: Saturday, May 25, 2:00 PM – The shelter at Cheyenne Mountain High School remains open as we continue to help people displaced by the apartment fire. Red Cross and partners have seen to the needs of 123 individuals. We will continue to provide comfort until needs are met. A special thanks to those who spent the night seeing to the needs of the people who were without a place to go after their apartment building was evacuated.

Friday, May 24 12:00 PM – The Red Cross and partners are currently responding to the needs of the residents of the Regency Tower apartment complex in Colorado Springs at 921 Green Star Drive off 8th Street.

The reunification center at Cheyenne Mountain High School, 1200 Cresta Rd #Colorado Springs Main Gym East will be transitioned to an overnight shelter until further notice. All units have been evacuated for a minimum of 24 hours. Residents are currently being transported by bus to the shelter.

Family and friends should report to the main gym, east facing to connect with those displaced.

Snacks, water and dinner are available. Health services, spiritual care and disaster counselors are on hand. Red Crossers are working to help individuals recover needed medication, glasses and durable medical supplies.

We are aware of the access and functional needs of our clients and every attempt is being made to provide accommodations as needed.

Pikes Peak Humane Society has been contacted and a collocated animal shelter will be available at the property by the end of the day.

A phone line is available for clients to contact loved ones.
