Final Shelter Closure Update – 6:30Pm, March 14, 2019

As of now, all shelters in Southeastern Colorado are closed and residents have returned safely home. Thank you to all that sacrificed to provide comfort to those in need!

Shelter Update – 3:40 PM

Shelter Closures: The shelter in Monument at St. Peters Catholic Church has been closed and the shelter at the Wiggins Elementary School has been closed.

Shelter Update – 1:30 PM

Shelters remain open as people wait for the road to clear. A few people have been taken to their cars although many of those were not able to dig them out. Rescue efforts continue and many of those are being taken to shelters. The Red Cross has shelters open and there are a number of warming shelters open in Denver for people without power. If you are in the Denver area and in need of shelter you can call 311 to get help.

Update at 9:40 AM – Thursday, March 14, 2019 – The Red Cross has opened a shelter at Wiggins Elementary School, 415 Main St, Wiggins, Colorado. Stranded motorists stayed at the local fire station overnight and will be moved to the new shelter location. This will provide a much more comfortable location for those needing shelter.

Shelters remained open overnight along the Colorado Front Range from Colorado Springs to Cheyenne, WY. Our volunteers worked through the night to take care of more than 300 people who sought refuge from the storm.

Highways remain closed between Colorado Springs and Denver. Many of the side roads are blocked by snow drifts and/or abandoned vehicles. If you must venture out today be sure to check with Colorado Department of Transpoprtation for road closures at COTRIP.ORG.

Converse County National Guard Armory – Red Cross of Wyoming has opened a shelter at 315 Pearson Rd., Douglas WY to assist those people affected by the blizzard and the closure of I-25.
