Grand Junction, CO, Thursday, April 3, 2018, 8 A.M. – UPDATE – The Red Cross continues to support people affected by the Rosevale Fire. As of this morning we have opened cases for 12 families or individuals who were impacted. Our volunteer case workers are providing recovery counseling and connecting people with local resources.

Grand Junction, CO, Tuesday, April 3, 2018, Noon – UPDATE – The Red Cross has closed the shelter in Grand Junction. There were 3 people who stayed overnight at the shelter. All people affected have been contacted to ensure that everyone has a place to stay.

Red Cross volunteers are working with local fire and emergency management to determine how many homes were impacted by the fire. Once the disaster assessment is complete Red Cross case workers will meet with all of the families that are displace to help them work toward recovery.

Grand Junction, CO, Tuesday, April 3, 2018, 8 A.M. – A wildland fire broke out Monday near Grand Junction in Mesa County, Colorado. The fire, named the Rosevale Fire forced evacuation of more than 300 homes. By 1 AM, the fire was considered 100 percent contained.

The American Red Cross of Western Colorado  opened an evacuation center around 9:30 P.M. that became a Red Cross shelter as evacuees required overnight lodging and support. Only 3 people stayed at the shelter overnight. Others evacuees made arrangements with friends, families or local hotels.

 

According to the Grand Junction Fire Department, homes were destroyed by the fire. Red Cross disaster volunteers will work with the residents of those home to begin recovery. The evacuation order was lifted at 8 A.M. according to the Grand Junction Fire Department and all roads have been opened. However, fire crews will still be in the area and caution is advised. The shelter, located at the Bookcliff Baptist Church, 2702 Patterson Rd, Grand Junction, CO 81506, remains open as Red Cross disaster teams evaluate needs and begin support of families that were displaced.
