Golden Volunteer Firefighter Daniel Glynn responded to a call for help last June when a report came into the Golden Fire Department that people were in trouble at Clear Creek. Upon arrival, a young woman was seen floating face down in rough water and Glynn jumped in to save her. The 23-year-old victim had been floating for an extended period of time, and the firefighters along with the medical response rescuers, performed CPR for 45 minutes. While they did bring back her pulse, she later passed away after being transported to a hospital.
When talking about the incident, Chief Alicia Welch proudly notes Firefighter Glynn’s bravery saying, “He did so at grave personal risk to himself. The fact that he is a volunteer firefighter is even more extraordinary.”
Despite the danger of Covid-19 and choppy floodwaters, Glynn acted selflessly to save a life. His heroism is at the heart of a firefighter’s call to duty and is reflected in the purpose statement of the Golden Fire Department, “To serve in the face of adversity.”
