Red Cross responded to 61 events, assisting 182 people In May

Denver, Tuesday, June 5, 2018 – The American Red Cross of Colorado and Wyoming continues to provide support during disaster large and small. From home fires to wildfires our disaster volunteers have met the challenge.

During May eleven of our disaster volunteers deployed to Texas, Hawaii, Arizona and Maryland to help provide disaster relief. Some of our volunteers deployed virtually by remaining at home but working with needs at the disaster location.

June marks the beginning of the warm season and with it comes a variety of threats including wildfires, tornadoes, floods and severe thunderstorms. We encourage everyone to look at their emergency action plans to make sure they are up to date and appropriate for warm season hazards. June is also Pet Safety and Preparedness Month when we also encourage people to include their pets in their emergency planning. For more information about emergency preparedness please visit our website, www.redcross.org/prepare.

As we head into summer please be careful with outdoor activities, especially if the activity involves and open flame like a grill or campfire. Wildfire conditions continue to be hazardous and prone to rapid fire development.
