Red Cross Honors East High School Junior, Charlie Hite

After working all day as a lifeguard, Charlie saved a life on her way home from work.

Charlie Hite has worked as a lifeguard for the last nine months. Thanks to her lifeguard training, she was able to save a man who was overdosing and unconscious in City Park.

For their heroic and lifesaving acts, Charlie Hite, received the American Red Cross Youth Lifesaving Award and the Lifesaving Certificate of Merit at the American Red Cross Heroes Soiree last Saturday, February 29, 2020

The American Red Cross Heroes Soiree is a celebration of the Red Cross spirit as exemplified in lifesaving heroes in Colorado.

In September, Charlie had just finished working her shift, as a lifeguard at the Carla Madison Recreation Center, when she rode through City Park on her way home. She noticed a homeless man trying to preform CPR on someone in the park. She quickly jumped off her bike and pulled out her lifeguarding pack, filled with her breathing mask and other emergency items. Charlie went to help and took over with rescue breaths until emergency responders could arrive.
