June 17, 2020    –   The American Red Cross of Colorado is currently working with local emergency management in Montezuma County and providing support and care to several families who have been affected by East Canyon Fire, in Durango and Cortez. The wildfire started on Saturday, southeast of Mancos, Colorado. To date, 2,700 acres of wilderness have been burned and several homes have been evacuated.

The American Red Cross of Southeastern Colorado is actively providing care and comfort to community members displaced by the fire. Red Cross has housed a total of 6 people, a family in Durango and a couple in Cortez. Due to COVID-19 strict protocols are in place to ensure the safety of residents and volunteers.

The Red Cross is providing food and health services in addition to shelter. We are poised to offer more assistance as soon as it may be needed.
