PUEBLO, COLORADO, AUGUST 14, 2020 – The American Red Cross is working around the clock to provide safe shelter and comfort for nearly a 100 people impacted by the Fenix Apartment fire in Pueblo. Fire ripped through the apartments on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, causing extensive damage to 40 homes.
Red Cross volunteers have been hard at work since; providing shelter, food, medical assistance and mental health support as well as taking care of immediate needs, like clothing, infant essentials and more. To date, the Red Cross has served more than 1920 meals, 1500 snacks and provided more than 550 contacts for medical services.
The coronavirus pandemic puts additional stress on families seeking shelter, which is why we have plans in place to reduce risks—such as social distancing protocols, face coverings, health screenings and prioritizing individual hotel rooms. The safety of our workforce and the communities we serve continues to be our priority. The Red Cross follows all CDC guidance, and we work closely with local health officials to safely provide help and hope when disasters strike.
Services and support, from the Red Cross, its volunteers and our community partners, will continue as it is needed in order to help the individuals impacted by this tragic event to ensure they can recover and rebuild their lives.
