5 Daily Fun Activities to Stay Healthy at Home

Is it possible to have fun in this environment?

Yes! And it’s actually really important.

Laughter is not only fun—it’s also good for you, lowering blood pressure and strengthening your immune system. So watch a funny show, movie, or stand-up special. Talk to a funny friend or family member. Do whatever gets you giggling. You’ve earned a chuckle.

Maintaining your health is essential in these trying times and engaging in fun activities plays a significant part. The National Institutes of Health says participating in experiences you enjoy can help you maintain your wellbeing—lowering your risks for certain health problems and improving your emotional health.

Monday: Have a Chuckle

This week, give yourself permission to have some fun. Try the following daily suggestions from Be Well@Red Cross. Feel free to track your fun activities at bewellredcross.org or using the My StayWell app.

Tuesday: Play a (Virtual?) Board Game

Playing games with friends or family can help distract you from the present anxiety-inducing moment. Try playing a board game with your family or housemates, or if you live alone, play with family or friends over a video chat.

Wednesday: Get Creative

Draw. Paint. Write. Build a fort. Make a funny video. Design a silly costume. Art and creativity can enhance your wellness, so flex those creative muscles!

Thursday: ‘Go’ Dancing

All right, so nightclubs and dance halls aren’t open. But who says you can’t create your own at home? Get all dressed up and shake a tailfeather (or do a waltz—whatever gets you moving!). Not only is dancing a good time; it’s also a good aerobic exercise. Bonus.

Friday: Have a Campout (or Camp-in)

If every night feels the same, try switching things up with a new sleeping location and routine. If you have the means and the weather is right, have a campout in your backyard. No yard? Bad weather? Then have a camp-in. Tell stories, make s’mores, use flashlights. Wherever you are, it’ll be fun little break from your routine.
