Go Team Therapy Dogs is a nonprofit organization that utilizes therapy dogs to support those in distress. The organization will receive a 2023 Community Hero Award at the American Red Cross of Colorado and Wyoming Rocky Mountain Heroes Soiree for their positive impact on the community.
Go Team Therapy Dogs was founded in 2012 in response to the Waldo Canyon fire in Colorado Springs. That disaster destroyed hundreds of homes and forced more than 32,000 residents to evacuate, leaving the community in fear and anguish. In response, Nancy Trepagnier brought her dogs to displaced people to bring comfort during a crisis. Seeing the dogs’ positive impact, Nancy established Go Team Therapy Dogs to fulfill the widespread need for therapy and crisis dogs.
According to KOAA5 news, Go Team Therapy Dogs has over 600 active teams in the United States and Italy, and continues to respond to any place or situation where they can provide comfort in time of need. In 2013, Go Team Therapy Dogs again responded to the devastation of the Black Forest Fire by bringing relief and support to those impacted. The therapy dogs regularly visit Colorado Springs Police Department stations, fire stations, schools, hospitals, military bases, airports, parades, district attorney offices, and more.
The dedication and preparedness of Go Team Therapy Dogs to provide support during times of adversity exemplify the meaning of community heroism.
