American Red Cross of Colorado & Wyoming Volunteers Provide Comfort to People Experiencing Incredible Hardship from Daily Emergencies Like Home Fires
Since the beginning of the Coronavirus outbreak in the U.S., the American Red Cross of Colorado and Wyoming has continued responding to emergencies every day across the country and in our communities. In addition to the larger-scale disasters and deployments to help out other states, Red Cross volunteers and employees were on hand to help people after daily emergencies like home fires that that cause incredible hardship for the impacted individuals and families. Disaster workers were there with relief and comfort for people facing their darkest hours. Wearing masks and practicing social distancing, they delivered food, shelter, relief and cleanup supplies, basic health services — such as help replacing prescription medications and eyeglasses — and emotional support. In January, the Red Cross of Colorado and Wyoming provided support and care to 129 people. Out of the 49 calls in January, the majority of calls were for home fires.

2020 is a year we won’t forget any time soon. Millions of people across the country have been impacted by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic while at the same time hundreds of thousands of people have been affected by record-setting wildfires in the west and hurricanes along the Gulf Coast. If you want to help a family recover from a home fire, we need you to join our disaster action teams. Visit redcross.org/volunteer to see how easy it is to join us.
COVID-19
The coronavirus pandemic puts additional stress on families seeking support after disaster, which is why we have plans in place to reduce risks—such as social distancing protocols, face coverings, health screenings and prioritizing individual hotel rooms. The safety of our workforce and the communities we serve continues to be our priority. The Red Cross follows all CDC guidance, and we work closely with local health officials to safely provide help and hope when disasters strike.
