Working 50 hours a week is not an easy task. A full-time coach at Vistage, Lori Halverson has also been a volunteer for the American Red Cross of Colorado since 2009. She utilizes her skillset to help build better leaders within the Red Cross volunteer workforce. Lori is a Disaster Action Team (DAT) supervisor and works in Public Affairs. Safe to say, she has a lot on her plate.
Lori has participated in several Sound the Alarm campaigns, where she visits at-risk communities to install free smoke alarms and help families create escape plans.
“I feel like I make a difference each time a light bulb goes off in someone’s head and they realize they have some significant risk areas that they need to address,” said Lori.
Lori has deployed to disaster response operations twice, once as a shelter manager in Northern Colorado during the 2020 wildfires and as a shelter manager during a blizzard. She loves working with the DAT because she can give support to individuals and families in need on a one-to-one basis. On the other hand, when working in Public Affairs, she gets to capture people’s stories and spread the word about how the Red Cross is helping change lives in the face of disaster.
Even with such a busy schedule, Lori continues to give so much to the Red Cross and you can too. Click here to learn more about becoming a volunteer today.
