The American Red Cross of Colorado and Wyoming is recognizing Nykolys Ameduri as a Community Hero for his life-saving actions in assisting at an accident on the Interstate.
On November 15, 2022, Sergeant Nykolys witnessed an 18-wheeler make a wrong turn off the Interstate near Gate 20 in Fort Carson, Colo. The truck pulled into the middle lane and struck another vehicle, which then jumped over the median and struck two cars behind it.
Nykolys took control of the scene. He ran to the truck driver’s vehicle. After managing to get the door open, he talked with the injured driver, stabilized him in the back seat and placed a cervical collar on him. Thanks to his swift actions, Nykolys prevented the injured driver from sustaining other injuries.
Nykolys had been a law enforcement officer for five years and was in the Marine Corps before joining the army, so his background enabled him to know how to handle such situations.
Nykolys’ preparedness and willingness to respond to an emergency is in keeping with the mission of the Red Cross. He will be recognized as a Community Hero at the 2023 American Red Cross of Colorado and Wyoming Rocky Mountain Heroes Soiree.
