Welcome Phil Beam: New Disaster Program Manager Strengthening Community Resilience

by Kate Walters, Red Cross Public Affairs Volunteer

The Red Cross extends a warm welcome to our new Disaster Program Manager, Phil Beam. He and his family hail from New Mexico and have made Pueblo, Colorado, their new home. In his new role, Phil will oversee Red Cross services in Fremont, Pueblo, Custer, Huerfano, Las Animas, Crowley, Otero, Kiowa, Bent, Prowers, and Baca counties. His responsibilities include coordinating disaster response efforts, managing volunteer teams, and ensuring the delivery of essential services to those in need.

Beam takes time to get to seasoned volunteer Carlotta Barnes of Walsenburg who drove into town to make his acquaintance.

Phil Beam brings a vision of developing a strong and vibrant post-COVID volunteer team. He looks forward to energizing the office by reducing remote meetings in favor of more face-to-face collaborations and projects. These initiatives are designed to enhance community preparedness and resilience in the face of disasters. Phil aims to foster a sense of camaraderie and teamwork among volunteers, encouraging more hands-on training sessions and community engagement activities. He believes that these efforts will not only improve the effectiveness of disaster response but also strengthen the bond between the Red Cross and the communities it serves.

In addition to his professional goals, Phil and his family are excited to explore the natural beauty and rich cultural heritage of Pueblo and the surrounding areas. They are eager to participate in local events, support community initiatives, and build lasting relationships with their new neighbors. Phil’s dedication to service and his commitment to making a positive impact reflect the core values of the Red Cross, and we are confident that his leadership will bring about significant benefits to the region.

Phil’s approach to disaster management emphasizes proactive measures, such as community education and preparedness programs, to mitigate the impact of emergencies before they occur. By working closely with local authorities, schools, and organizations, he plans to develop comprehensive strategies that address the unique needs and challenges of each county under his jurisdiction. Phil’s holistic approach ensures that the Red Cross remains a trusted and reliable partner in times of crisis, providing vital support and resources to those who need it most.

Phil expresses his enthusiasm with a heartfelt sentiment, “I’m thrilled to join this incredible team that’s dedicated to helping people. This kind of work aligns perfectly with my passions and skills. It’s not just a job; it’s a calling that’s right up my alley.”

Jeanne Hoyt, a dedicated longtime Red Cross volunteer, shared her excitement about the new addition to the team saying that she’s thrilled to welcome someone who is committed to developing a robust volunteer network. Phil’s presence will significantly enhance our capacity as a team, allowing us to reach out and support individuals during their darkestmoments. His leadership will be instrumental in strengthening our efforts and making a greater impact in the community.

Phil Beam’s arrival as the new Disaster Program Manager marks a significant milestone for the Red Cross. With his leadership, the Red Cross is well-positioned to strengthen community resilience and preparedness, making a meaningful difference in the lives of those it serves.
