Ongoing Support Enables Red Cross to Provide Safe Blood Supply
The American Red Cross is proud to announce a national partnership with Prologis Inc.Prologis, the global leader in logistics real estate, has made a $500,000 commitment to Blood Saves Lives. This partnership will help the Red Cross in its efforts to collect life-saving blood donations for patients in need during COVID-19.
According to the Red Cross, every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion. That someone may be a child battling cancer, an accident victim being raced into an emergency room, or a new mom experiencing complicated childbirth. The need for blood is constant.
“The American Red Cross is grateful to Prologis for their generous gift in support of our Biomedical Services mission,” said Paul Sullivan, Senior Vice President, Red Cross Blood Services. “Their support of our mission during the coronavirus pandemic has helped to ensure the Red Cross has the resources necessary to overcome new blood collections challenges and enable our organization to continue to safely collect and distribute lifesaving blood donations to treat patients in need.”
The donation from the Prologis Foundation is part of its $5 million global fund to provide financial support to nonprofits and community-based organizations assisting in COVID-19 relief efforts. It will support the American Red Cross in hosting 128 blood drives across the country. The American Red Cross hosts on average 500 blood drives daily. Prologis encourages their employees, their families, and the communities where they operate to make a personal impact by donating blood in their community.
“We recognize that in the midst of a global pandemic, the need for life-saving blood donations is more critical than ever, and we are proud to support the Red Cross through the Prologis COVID-19 relief fund,” said Prologis Chief Legal Officer and ESG head Edward S. Nekritz.
Individuals do not need to know their blood type to give; and all blood types are needed. Blood is a perishable product that can only come from volunteer blood donors. The blood donation process takes about an hour from start to finish, but the actual donation itself only takes about 8-10 minutes.
While the American Red Cross of Colorado and Wyoming does not collect blood, we do supply it. In the first three months of 2020, over 6,000 lifesaving blood products were provided to area hospitals in Colorado. To donate in Colorado, we recommend making an appointment online with Children’s Hospital of Colorado or call 720-777-5398.
