Red Cross Needs Volunteers in Chaffee County

Training Offered July 13 in Buena Vista

Colorado Springs, CO, Monday, July 8, 2019 – The American Red Cross of Southeastern Colorado is offering free training and new volunteer registration for anyone wanting to be a Red Cross volunteer in Chaffee County. The training will be held Saturday, July 13 from 9 AM to 11 AM at the Buena Vista Fire Department, 111 Linderman Ave, Buena Vista, CO 81211.

“Our goal is to develop a team of Red Cross volunteers that can support Chaffee County during a disaster. We are also looking to expand our Disaster Action Team to be able to better respond to home fires,” said Cori Tanner Red Cross Area Lead for Chaffee. Lake and Park Counties.

What: Disaster Shelter Operations training

When: Saturday, July 13, 2019, 9 AM to 11 AM

Note: Refreshments will be served

This two-hour training will provide an opportunity to register as a Red Cross volunteer and an opportunity to gain basic training to operate an evacuation shelter that would be opened to support people evacuated due to a disaster. The disaster could be due to a wildfire, flood, major winter storm, power outage, or any event that is designated as an emergency by the Chaffee County Office of emergency Management. “Red Cross disaster volunteers are an important part of the Chaffee County disaster plan,” said Bob Christenson, interim Emergency Coordinator for Chaffee County. “We need more volunteers who want to help their community.”
