The American Red Cross of Wyoming took the opportunity to provide a trunk at the annual Trunk or Treat event sponsored by Cheyenne Frontier Days and the Association of General Contractors of Wyoming. The event took place at the CFD Old West Museum on October 29.
“Many parents said they were going to practice the fire escape plan with their family.”
Wyoming Red Cross Executive Director Janet Lewis said that, “along with the scads of candy,” she and volunteers Katrina Geesaman and Terri Stephan handed out 500 gently used children’s books, and bookmarks and taught fire safety to about 600 kids using an oversized dollhouse. Katarina said, “It was wonderful to see parents picking out books with their child, that they loved reading as a child.”
The dollhouse was used to teach fire safety to the kids. Katrina said, “It was surprising to many parents, that when we reviewed fire safety escape route plans, many of the children didn’t remember the family meeting place in case of a fire.” She said, “Many parents said that when they got home, they were going to actually practice and review the fire escape plan with their family.”
A fun time was had by all, and Red Cross of Wyoming is always happy to participate with partners to deliver safety education and materials.
