Recently, more than 20 American Red Cross volunteers welcomed people at the parking lot, helped with registration and passed out snacks in the recovery area at the STRIDE Community Health Center COVID-19 Vaccination event for Park County residents at Platte Canyon High School in Bayley, Colorado.
Thea Wasche and her Red Cross therapy dog, Willow, volunteered at the vaccination event last weekend. Thea explains how Red Cross support was key to making the event successful, “Our team of volunteers from Southeastern Colorado and Mile High provided outstanding support to the Park County Public Health office. We were proud to be a part of this event, providing 500 vaccinations to Park County senior citizens, wanting to do their part to help prevent and stop the spread of COVID. Together, our teams took care of an entire community. Nothing can be better than volunteering for the American Red Cross!”
As coronavirus vaccination efforts ramp up across the country, the Red Cross is prepared to help support local needs. If requested by local officials, this support could include helping to set up vaccination sites, collecting information from people being vaccinated, and providing water and snacks for medical staff and people waiting to be vaccinated. Red Cross volunteers who are medical professionals may also work with local authorities to help give vaccinations if their state licenses permit them to do so. In addition, Red Cross teams are currently helping to vaccinate U.S. service members on military installations, in treatment facilities and veterans hospitals in the United States and around the world.
