21 Gun Salute and a Hometown Barbecue.

George Evans, the American Red Cross of Colorado and Wyoming Regional Warehouse Supervisor, has been a volunteer with the American Red Cross since 2017. Before his service with the Red Cross, George served our country.

Linda Yoskowitz, Colorado and Wyoming Regional Logistics Lead has worked closely with George for several years. “George is a wonderful Red Cross volunteer who stands up when asked and always goes the extra mile when needed. As the region’s warehouse supervisor, his knowledge, skills and ability play an important role in maintaining the region’s readiness,” said Linda. “When George told me about the celebration his hometown was having for him this weekend, I knew we needed to celebrate him, also!”

In 1972, George was attending college in Montana, when he received word that he would be the first one from his county to be drafted to go to Vietnam. Frightened of being shot while at war in Vietnam, George decided that joining the Air Force was a safer bet. He served with the Air Force for four years.

George’s home county, Uinta County, Wyoming, erected a Monument honoring all of the county’s citizens who served during the Vietnam War. Three veterans’ names, including George’s, were mistakenly left off the monument. In order to make amends and to celebrate the three veterans, the County is rededicating the monument this Memorial Day weekend with a military procession, including a 21 gun salute and a hometown barbecue.
