Drew Phillips is a Red Cross volunteer and has been since high school. He is also a 2016 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. He has a strong sense of community and is driven by the feelings he gets when he helps people. “Volunteering for the Red Cross is the most rewarding thing a person can do,” He said. “Working with Red Cross volunteers and helping people in need knowing that you can make a difference.”
Since high school and while attending the Air Force Academy, Drew recommitted himself as a Red Cross volunteer in honor of his grandfather who was a long time, dedicated Red Cross volunteer.
Drew has been part of the Red Cross of Southeastern Colorado since 2012. During the Black Forest fire of 2013, Drew would help at the Chapter during the day and then work at the shelter at night. In September of 2015, Drew helped organize a massive Home Fire Campaign that partnered the Red Cross with over 400 Academy cadets for a single day of service that resulted in the installation of more than 700 smoke alarms in homes across six counties of Colorado.
“Drew has been a wonderful volunteer,” said Disaster Program Manager Sally Broomfield. “We will miss him but we know that he will go on to do great things as an Air Force officer and that he will always be part of the Red Cross.”
