Red Cross Closes Evacuation Center but Still Works to Support Fires in Colorado

DENVER, COLORADO, AUGUST 19, 2020 – The American Red Cross of Colorado is closing an evacuation center in Edwards, Colorado.  The evacuation center is located at Battle Mountain High School, 0151 Miller Ranch Road, Edwards, 81632.

Red Cross volunteers are making sure evacuation centers have necessary supplies for people who are evacuated.

Red Cross volunteers have been stationed there to accommodate anyone needing information or other assistance. As the fire has shifted, the evacuation center has not been heavily used. It will close TODAY at NOON until/if it is needed again.

The Red Cross of Colorado continues to support several other evacuation centers and provide resources to the four large fires burning throughout Colorado at this time.

Red Cross volunteers feeling the support from our communities

The coronavirus pandemic has impacted the way the Red Cross responds to disasters in Colorado. The pandemic puts additional stress on families seeking support, which is why we have plans in place to reduce risks—such as social distancing protocols, face coverings, health screenings. The safety of our workforce and the communities we serve continues to be our priority. The Red Cross follows all CDC guidance, and we work closely with local health officials to safely provide help and hope when disasters strike.

Services and support, from the Red Cross, its volunteers and our community partners, will continue as it is needed in order to help the individuals impacted to ensure they can recover.

    Hi!

I am a local health care provider here in the valley and was wondering if there is anyone I can contact in regards to volunteering for medical care to those working on the front lines to fight the Grizzly Creek Fires.

    Thanks!
