On July 31, 2020 Delta County Sheriff Sergeant Travis Lackey responded to a report of a suicidal male in the town of Eckert in Delta County. The male party had a pistol and was threatening suicide. His wife was with him attempting to talk him out of his intentions. After arriving on scene, Sergeant Lackey was able to gain control of the gun and talk the man out of his plan, saving his life.
For his heroic and lifesaving acts, Travis Lackey will receive an American Red Cross Hero of the Year award at the Rocky Mountain Heroes Award ceremony, on March 20, 2021.
