Red Cross Honors Local Teenager

Leroy Trujilo, a local teenager, used great judgment, first aid skills and riding experience to safely evacuate a severely injured person on his dirt bike.

For his heroic and lifesaving actions, Leroy Trujilo will receive the 2022 Youth Hero of the Year Award at the American Red Cross of Colorado and Wyoming Rocky Mountain Heroes Soirée.

At age 17, Leroy and his friends were riding their dirt bikes in the La Garita area of southeastern Colorado. After learning that another rider in the area was seriously injured, he immediately jumped in to help. Leroy used great judgment, first aid skills and his riding experience to help safely evacuate the injured person to a waiting ambulance.

At the American Red Cross, our mission is to help people prepare for and respond to emergencies. To accomplish this goal, we have developed a wide range of training opportunities and certification programs that empower individuals like Leroy to help in the moments that matter.

The Rocky Mountain Heroes Soirée celebrates the Red Cross spirit as exemplified in lifesaving heroes in Colorado and Wyoming.
