Never Thought that I Could Be Part of Something so Big

Sarah Sanchez Volunteer Profile

By Aiden Greco, American Red Cross of Colorado Public Affairs Volunteer

Sarah Sanchez is a full-time senior IT Support Analyst. In her spare time, she loves baking, crafting and planning family get-togethers. In addition to Sarah’s many hobbies, she has been a volunteer with the American Red Cross of Colorado for the last two years.

Coming out of college, Sarah wanted to volunteer somewhere, and whilst searching the web, the Red Cross came up. She said, “I figured that I could help with small items around the office since my work schedule does not permit me to be deployed. What I got was so much more. I never thought that I could be a part of something so big with event planning in the Fund Development area.”

The last two years, Sarah was instrumental in the organization of the Heroes Soiree, the region’s largest annual fundraiser. One of the events was in-person and the other was held virtually due to COVID-19. During the in-person Heroes Soiree in early 2020, Sarah helped set up and work the event for over 14 hours. Sarah was a huge part of the silent auction for the virtual event this past March. She helped organize items, create baskets and added them to the online silent auction platform.

When asked about what her favorite Red Cross memory was, Sarah responded, “My favorite memory was the annual Heroes Soiree in 2020. It was the first event that I helped with and seeing all the ideas that we had talked about for months come to life was truly breathtaking.”

Sarah works with the Fund Development team. Events like the silent auction bring in crucial funds for the Red Cross to be able to deploy volunteers to disasters and further work towards our mission. Our volunteers are like the engine for the Red Cross and the Fund Development team collects the fuel for that engine to run. These events take serious planning, time and dedication, that would never work without the help of incredible people like Sarah.
