Sound The Alarm 2022

Donors, Volunteers and Partners Made Sound the Alarm a Success this Year

Home fires claim seven lives every day, but having working smoke alarms can cut the risk of death by half.

This year, Red Cross of Colorado and Wyoming volunteers and local partners have installed more than 475 free smoke alarms and made nearly 225 households safer from the threat of home fires as part of the national Red Cross Home Fire Campaign.

“Home fires are the nation’s most frequent disaster, and we want to ensure everyone knows how to protect themselves and their loved ones from these everyday crises,” said Gino Greco, chief executive officer, American Red Cross of Colorado and Wyoming “We are grateful for the support of our volunteers and partners to help save lives.”

HOW TO PROTECT YOUR FAMILY

  • To help stay safe from home fires, place smoke alarms on each level of your home, including inside and outside bedrooms and sleeping areas.
  • Test alarms monthly and change the batteries at least once a year, if your model requires it.
  • Create a home fire escape plan with at least two ways to exit every room in your home.
  • Practice your plan until everyone in your household can get out in less than two minutes.

This work is made possible, thanks to generous financial donations from regional partners!
