Sue Edwards: A Compassionate Spirit in Service to Others

Edwards, originally from Winton, Minnesota, has found her home in the vibrant city of Denver, Colorado. A compassionate individual with a heart for service, Edwards’s unwavering dedication makes a positive impact on the lives of others.

Edwards started her academic journey in her home state, earning a higher education degree in Communication Disorders. Following her graduation, she savored the beauty of Montana before making her way to Colorado. The Centennial State became her new home where she earned a Master’s in Social Work (MSW) at the University of Denver (DU).

Edwards ‘s love for Colorado is evident in her various outdoor pursuits. A self-proclaimed “wannabe fly fisherperson,” she revels in the state’s natural beauty, frequently engaging in bird and wildflower hikes. Sharing quality time with friends at Colorado’s craft beer spots and exploring historical sites during her travels are among Edwards’s cherished pastimes. Her commitment to family is evident too as shown by the purchase of a boat for sunny outings on Chatfield Reservoir, where she enjoys spending time with her two daughters, sons-in-law, and two grandsons.

In 2011, Edwards embarked on a deeply fulfilling journey with the Red Cross. Her involvement in the organization is driven by a profound appreciation for human connections forged in service. “There is just something about connecting with other humans in a service situation that is so rewarding.” It is the human connection that warms her heart. “To see a person in the worst of circumstances and have the ability to put a small smile on their face, is very motivating”.

To Sue, working with colleagues is equally as gratifying as supporting the clients she serves. Her roles within Disaster Cycle Services and Service to the Armed Forces allows her to work closely with her colleague and nominator, Marlene Husson.

For Edwards, the driving force in her life today is the ability to maintain good health and live with joy. This positive outlook on life, coupled with her commitment to service, has earned her recognition and honor. Sue is honored and humbled to be named a 2024 Rocky Mountain Heroes Soiree Community Champion.

Edwards’s journey from the Midwest to the Rockies, coupled with her commitment to community service through the Red Cross, paints a picture of a compassionate and dedicated individual. Her story is one of selflessness, love for family, and a genuine passion for making a difference in the lives of others. Edwards ‘s recognition is well-deserved, and her continued efforts inspire others to follow in her footsteps, fostering a spirit of empathy and service in the community.
